Family Peace Home Love

Linda always brings me the best quilts. She did all the buttonhole stitching by hand.
She even added their lab Blacky sitting by the pond.
If you click on this picture you should see the pebble path.

Tried a new background fill. Saw something similar on Pinterest & had to give it a try.
It was really fun to quilt. Thanks for the great inspiration Linda.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Mr S & I are going to Anacortes later to my favorite park, Washington Park  .  If you've never been you should really go. The views of the San Juan Islands  are stunning & sunsets are all that & more. Psst Pam, they have a campground & great food & brews at Rockfish Grill.

Happy Sunday. See you next week.

Friday Fun

I'll be going here after 3 o"clock today. Go here to their home page or if you are on Facebook try here. Shambala Farms had delicious iced tea. Lots of great fresh fruit too. Strawberries & the donut peaches were my favorites.

Used some of the zucchini for this recipe I found on Pinterest & have made it a couple times.

Easy Cheesy Zucchini Bake
(Makes 4-6 servings; recipe adapted from a recipe by Karen Niessing in PenzeysBack to School 2011 Catalog, with suggestions from my sister Pam.)

2 medium-sized zucchini, cut in slices or half-moon slices
2 medium-sized yellow squash, cut in slices or half-moon slices
2-4 T chopped fresh basil (or even less, depending on how much you like the flavor of basil)
2 T thinly sliced green onion
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
3/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 cup + 1/2 cup low-fat white cheese (I used Pizza Cheese, which is a low-fat blend of Mozzarella, Provolone, Romano, and Parmesan)
1/2 cup coarsely grated Parmesan (I would use a little less if you only have the very finely grated Parmesan from a can)
salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350F/180C.  Spray an 8" x 8" baking dish with olive oil or non-stick spray.  Wash the squash and cut in slices or half-moon slices.  Wash basil, spin dry or dry with paper towels and finely chop.  Slice green onions.

Combine the sliced squash, chopped basil, sliced green onions, dried thyme, garlic powder, and both kinds of cheese and stir together until the veggies are coated with cheese and the herbs are well-distributed.  Season with salt and fresh ground black pepper.  Put the mixture in the baking dish and bake uncovered for about 25-30 minutes.

When the zucchini is nearly cooked through, take the casserole dish out of the oven and sprinkle over the remaining 1/2 cup of grated cheese.  Put the dish back in the oven and bake 10-15 minutes longer, or until the cheese is melted and nicely browned and zucchini is fully cooked.  Serve hot.

On Saturday you might want to check out the Camano Island Quilters
Summer Yard Sale
CIQ members, quilters, and all "fabri-holics" will be at the Odd Fellows Hall(on Camano Island) on Saturday August 25th from 10-5. You'll find fabric, books, fat quarters, notions, crafting supplies and more!

Yes, I have been quilting. I let one get away without taking any pictures. Hoping to get some tomorrow so I can show you. Quilts are calling. Be back soon.

For The Love of Purple

You might remember from a previous post that Julia the Dentist loves purple. Her office in covered in a sea of purple quilts. Here are the latest additions. All of the quilts have a tiny piece of silver lame.

 A Kim Stotsenburg inspired border.

This is a mondo king size quilt. You know, the ones that seem like you'll never get done.

I didn't run fast enough last week & caught Mr S's cold. Feeling better. Still have that 1-900 voice if you know what I mean.

Saturday is the Sew Day for the Stanwood-Camano Hero Quilters at the Stanwood Senior Center. We make quilts for American Hero Quilts.  They are quilts for wounded soldiers. Right now they are sending 100 quilts a month to one of the field hospitals in Afghanistan. We'll be there from 10-3:30. So far our little group has made 844 quilts for American Hero Quilts. It's an amazing group of quilters.

Better get quilting before it gets too hot here. Be back soon.

BQ-Before Quilting

This is how my day started. How about you? The colors from the deck were great.

Had to go down to the beach for a better look.

This was taken about an hour after the first photo.

This is why I love it here.
Quilts are calling. Be back soon.
