Still waiting..................

So here's what I've been up to the past week. The stitchery blocks are Ella & Ave from Truly Scrumptious by Cinderberry Stitches. I am almost finished with the third block of nine! The red & white quilt is my Buck-a-Block. See Joanna's blue finished quilt at my webshots. The Halloween quilts are left over pieces from a quilt I made. I used ric-rac to stitch over for the quilting. And last , but not least Caroline the turtle being watched by Hunter, the cat that recently adopted Joanna & Sam. Hunter got his name from all the feathers in the yard! He is now sporting a very nice collar with a bell! Hunter is very curious about the turtle. We caught him in the turtle pen outside!
I'll be leaving today to come home to Washington. I could really get used to this California weather! With my luck Joanna will have "little mister" tonight! He is just not quite ready to make an appearance!
Watch on future posts for an update on my "Gardening with Angels" quilt. It will be hanging at "Quilting in the Garden" at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore CA this weekend!

Waiting for Little Mister

Here are some of the projects I've been working on while waiting for "little mister's" arrival. Starting on the left and going clockwise, sewed borders on Joanna veggie quilt. Love that cabbage fabric! I made 3 table toppers out of leftovers from the Halloween quilt(on right side). That was a real bonus! There's a wallet that matches the Miranda Bag(see previous post) and I've started on my Truly Scrumptious quilt blocks. The first one is called Gigi's Journey. Front & center is the setting block for the buck-a-block I'm hoping to finish soon. Mine is red and identical to Joanna's blue quilt that was my very first post.

Cute Dad story. Today my sister stopped by to help him fill his pill minder. He got all the pill bottles out and she asked him about the water pill he takes. "Do you take this in the morning or at night?" His answer........."Sharon always puts one in for every night, but I don't like taking them that often so I just put them back in the bottle." He's the one that told me how many and what spot they went in! He is such a character! I could care less if he doesn't want to take them at this point!

Joanna got a surprise delivery today. Check out these gourmet chocolate covered strawberries. I did get to sample one. Jim felt bad she isn't getting any sleep and sent them to her!

MIranda Done!

Here's the Miranda Bag I finished last week. The pattern is by Lazy Girl Designs. Check out the Lazy Talk Blog for the latest and greatest on bags, quilts and whatever.

Joanna & I have been very busy quilting. I'll try and get a "group" picture and post later today of all our projects so far. I finally started my Truly Scrumptious stitcheries from the very talented Natalie of Cinderberry Stitches. I need pick up-put down handwork while I'm here. This whimsical set of ladies caught my eye and will be perfect in a quilt!

Yesterday while we were out for "retail therapy" I had an "only in California" experience. I was shipping my Gardening with Angels quilt to Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore. The clerk asked me if Alden Lane was one word? I said it was 2. Not realizing until she said "then the last name is "nursery" did I finally figure out that she thought Alden Lane Nursery was a person's name!!!!!!! On top of that it was almost 80 degrees inside this store, Joanna had to hand me a tissue because the "I'm over 50 & never get cold sweat" was running down my temple! It took the clerk another 15 minutes to put the quilt in box ,tape it shut & put the label on! Joanna & I dared not look at each other or the laughter would never stop! Finally out the door Joanna says " I think that calls for a stop at Dairy Queen on the way home. I said I could use a drink! Does Dairy Queen serves margaritas? Ahh, another day in sunny California!

"Little Mister" is not being very co-operative! Still having some contractions, not sleeping well(practicing for when her gets here) and well you know. A week of this is getting old and this almost Grandma only has until the end of next week! We are going to the Dr later today. I'll post the update with the "group picture" later today!

Not counting the days anymore..................Almost Grandma Sharon

Quilt of the Week

Here's a quilt Joanna made. It's called Secret Garden. The pictures were taken in her backyard under the elm tree. I had one corner left to quilt when she called on Monday and said she was having some contractions. I hurried and got done, buzzed around and waited for another call. She called Tuesday morning and by noon I was headed for the airport. It's good to be here. It seems our "little mister" is not quite ready to make his grand entrance! He has her busy keeping track of contractions, but nothing serious yet!We are staying busy with quilts. I put borders on her veggie quilt, finished my Miranda Bag, a little  Valori Wells kit I've had for 3 years, and I am starting a wallet to go with the Miranda Bag. I'll do another post later with a picture of all the projects together!

Monet's Reflections

This is the second quilt that I made for the next 2 for 1 class at Aunt Mary's. You sew strip sets and get 2 different "block" pieces from each strip. One makes the Monet's Garden quilt(see previous post) and this quit, Monet's Reflections. This one takes a design wall for layout, but well worth the end result. The wiggly waves seemed perfect for the water look. Check out Aunt Mary's website for class date & time.
I'm adding some new favorite places, blogs & websites. The stitchery gals from down under are very talented. If I only had enough time to do the stitching! And also some state fair winning recipes for brownies that just make my mouth water looking at the picture. I'm going to try and a "counter" at the bottom of the blog and I found some good "link groups" to add! We'll see how this low tech almost Grandma fares. If you see blue smoke on the horizon, you'll know it's not going well! Stay tuned...........Sharon

This One's for Jean

Sorry Joanna, Jean says I need to post more than once a week. Here is a picture of the Miranda Bag I'm working on. Hopefully will be teaching a class this fall on how to make this great bag! There's even a Lazy Girl Design blog and a Yahoo group that have great pictures of what fabrics you can use when you make this bag! The Granary , our favorite California quilt shop in Sunnyvale, is where Miss Joanna made her Miranda Bag. I know I'm going to make more than one. Now if I could just have my purse as organized as Joanna's.........you are right, that will never happen!
Here's my "cute" Dad story of the week. (At least this week it's cute!) So when he was talking to me about his visit with the girlfriend he said they started dinner late and it was going to make him "late" getting back to his assisted living apartment. I said nothing. There is no "curfew" where he lives, I'll never tell!
I'll be back later with my favorite quilt! Until then..............Sharon
